Born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, on July 12, 1881, James Washington "Sunny Jim" Pastorius was a left-handed pitcher who had a four-year career in Major League Baseball. He began his professional career with the Albany Senators in the minor leagues before making his MLB debut with the Brooklyn Superbas in 1906. He pitched for the Superbas from 1906 to 1909, posting a career ERA of 3.12 over 727 innings. His best season was in 1907, when he had a 16-12 record. He retired from the game after the 1909 season and died in his hometown of Pittsburgh on May 10, 1941, at the age of 59.
